Brad Pitt Blames Himself, Not Aniston

When Brad Pitt gave an uncharacteristically candid interview with Parade magazine about the break-up of his marriage to Jennifer Aniston six years ago, he had to expect cans of worms to be opened. And they have been.

Although he describes his life as being "boring" while married to Aniston - and then goes on to say he's "so happy to have" Angelina Jolie in his life - it appeared to be a serious verbal blow to the former "Friends" star.

However, Pitt contends to Us Weekly that his words were misinterpreted.

"It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend," Pitt tells Us. "It is an important relationship I value greatly. The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself -- and that, I am responsible for."

In the Parade magazine interview, Pitt appeared to paint an unflattering portrait of his married life.

"It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself," he said. "I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t."

Pitt also admitted that he hid from celebrity behind a veil of marijuana smoke.

"I spent the ‘90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony. I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn’t living an interesting life myself."

He goes on to contrast his unhappy marriage with Aniston with his current relationship with actress Angelina Jolie. The pair met while filming the action comedy "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and are now raising a brood of children including biological children Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne and adopted children Maddox, Pax, and Zahara.

"One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom," says Pitt. "She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I’m so happy to have her.”

Despite rumors, Pitt and Jolie have not officially tied the knot. Aniston, meanwhile, is currently in a relationship with actor/screenwriter Justin Theroux ("Iron Man 2").
