Central Florida Boy Recovering From Shark Bite

A central Florida boy spent his 9th birthday in a hospital, recovering from shark bites.

Christian Sanhueza was boogieboarding in the Atlantic Ocean near Patrick Air Force Base on Saturday afternoon when his mother heard his screams. Then the boy vanished in the waves.

Melissa Sanhueza told Florida Today she grabbed the boy and ran.

On Tuesday, the Orlando boy was recovering from a severed Achilles' tendon and ligament damage. He's had two surgeries since Saturday.

His mom says the family was spending the day at the beach on Saturday to celebrate Christian's birthday. She estimates that the shark was about 3 feet long.

The boy could be discharged from the hospital on Friday, but faces additional surgeries.
