“Harry Potter” Director Developing “Dr. Who” Feature

Having crafted a triumphant "Harry Potter" finale, David Yates seemed poised to write his own ticket. It now appears his headed for another of England's most beloved franchises.

Yates is developing a feature film reboot of "Dr. Who," one of the most enduring staples of British television, reported Variety. Yates says the new story will be a departure from the current arc running on TV.

"Dr. Who" has been trying unsuccessfully to return to the big screen since the release of "Dr. Who and the Daleks" in 1965 and "Doctor Who: Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D."in 1966. Yates' incarnation is at least two or three years away from having a script, so don't hold your breath.

In the meantime, let the speculation begin as to who will portray the time-traveling alien genius in human form? Will it be one of the 11 men that have previously inhabited the role? Or will Yates try to make a clean break from past tellings? If they do decide to go with a fresh face, let the rumor mill begin with Benedict Cumberbatch, who's already proven himself to look rather smashing in a scarf.

So what does Yates do in the meantime? Warner Bros. is wooing him for "Imitation Game," said Deadline. 'Imitation Game" is their planned biopic about Alan Turing, which they hope will star Leonard DiCaprio as the man who helped invent artificial intelligence, played a crucial role in winning WW II and was ruthlessly persecuted for being gay.
