Court Declares Defendant Incompetent 9 Months After Eye Gouging

A New Jersey man implicated in the deadly stabbing of a 73-year-old woman has been declared incompetent to stand trial nine months after gouging his eyes out.

NJ.com reports a Sussex County Superior Court judge ordered Wednesday that Victor Razumov Jr. will have his mental status reviewed again at a Jan. 16 hearing.

A state Department of Human Services psychiatrist determined in May that Razumov's condition could improve through continued treatment.

Razumov's attorney, Robert Baer, said his client wasn't getting the necessary treatment for him to be restored.

The Wantage Township resident gouged out his eyes in December while being held in New jersey State Prison in Trenton.

He's been charged with murder, felony murder and other offenses related to the death of Virginia Sommer during a 2012 robbery.
