Sacramento Parade Will Honor Men Who Thwarted French Train Attack

The three California men who on Monday received France's highest honor for stopping a suspected terror attack aboard a Paris-bound train will be lauded with a parade in their hometown, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson announced.

"Big news!” Johnson tweeted. “We are throwing a parade for our 3 hometown heroes! Details and timing coming soon... #SacramentoProud.”

A spokesman for the city of Sacramento said the event is still in the planning stages.

French President Francois Hollande on Monday gave childhood buddies Alek Skarlatos, Spencer Stone and Anthony Sadler the Legion d'Honneur.

Sadler is a student from Rancho Cordova, California. Stone, of Carmichael, California, was traveling with Sadler, a senior at Sacramento State University, and Skarlatos, a National Guardsman originally from Carmichael, when they heard a gunshot and breaking glass.

Sadler said they saw a train employee sprint down the aisle followed by a gunman with an automatic rifle.

Airman Stone suffered stab wounds in the attack. He said Monday, when it looked like the suspect's gun jammed, they went for it.

"He seemed like he was ready to fight to the end and so were we,” Stone said.

Even though Stone was stabbed, he's also credited with helping save a gunshot victim once the attacker was unconscious and hogtied.

The alleged attacker is a Moroccan man who is reported to have been on a terror watch list in Spain.
