American cyclist Sarah Hammer couldn't catch up to the leader in the final event of the cycling omnium Tuesday, but she did manage to jump to second place, taking silver.

Great Britain's Laura Trott had a sizable lead entering the event and easily held on to win gold. Hammer battled with Belgium’s Jolien D’Hoore for the full 100-lap race to finish in second place.

Trott already has one gold medal under her belt from Team GB's pursuit victory earlier this week, and she won three of the six omnium events to get her second. With four gold medals, Trott is the most decorated British woman in Olympic history.

Hammer entered the points race in third place, but lapped the field and won enough sprints to leapfrog D'Hoore. Hammer also won silver in team pursuit behind Trott's Team GB. Hammer now has four silver medals, two in London, two in Rio.

D’Hoore took home the bronze just seven points behind Hammer.

It's the second silver medal at the Rio Olympics for Hammer, a longtime Temecula, California, resident. She also earned a silver in the team pursuit on Friday.
