Horse Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver in Pennsylvania: Police

A horse was killed when police said a suspected drunk driver smashed into a telephone pole and hit the animal in a western Pennsylvania field.

The Butler Eagle reports 16-year-old Sierra died Tuesday before owner Kenny Albert could get to her side.

Police said Douglas Ebeling's pickup truck knocked out a fence and wound up about 100 yards into the pasture.

The 56-year-old was hospitalized with minor injuries. Police say charges against are pending toxicology test results.

The 59-year-old Albert tells the newspaper his family is devastated by Sierra's death. He rode her every Sunday at a nearby state park. He says they'd bonded the way people bond with their dogs.

Porterville is about 38 miles north of Pittsburgh.
