"The Kennedys: After Camelot" is based on Randy Taraborrelli's book "After Camelot: A Personal History of the Kennedy Family 1968 to the Present." Production is slated to begin in the spring of 2015.

"'The Kennedys' was a brilliant execution of storytelling based on the lives of one of the world's best known families," Stan E. Hubbard, CEO of ReelzChannel, said in a statement. "Katie elegantly portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the first miniseries and now will continue the role as Jackie grows into the Jackie O that the world knows best."

This is Holmes' first TV role since 2011 when she appeared in "The Kennedys" and "How I Met Your Mother." She was previously attached to star in an ABC drama opposite Melissa George that did not make it past the pilot stage.

No premiere date has been set.
