Kerry Visits Site of 1998 U.S. Embassy Bombing in Nairobi

Secretary of State John Kerry visited the site Monday in Nairobi, Kenya, to honor the victims of the deadly 1998 bombing of a U.S. embassy by al Qaeda. Kerry met survivors of the blast that killed more than 200 people, including 12 Americans. He laid a wreath in the city's August 7 Memorial Park and stressed that "terrorists will always fail." "Yes, they can reduce a building to rubble. And yes, they can even deprive innocent people of their lives," he said. "But they do not give anyone anything of what really makes life worthwhile." The secretary of state's visit comes a month after al Shabab militants attacked Kenya's Garissa University College and killed 147 people. It was the country's deadliest attack since the 1998 bombing.
