Kevin Costner Wrote Letters to Help Whitney Houston

The 57-year-old actor tried to save his “Bodyguard” co-star from addiction.

Kevin Costner twice wrote letters to Whitney Houston to help her fight her drug problem, he revealed in an interview with Anderson Cooper.

Costner said for an upcoming May episode of “Anderson” that he did not know if Houston was battling drugs back in 1992 when the pair was working on “The Bodyguard” together.

But he said “a couple times” over the past seven or eight years he was asked to write the late pop star a letter of encouragement. It’s unclear who asked him to write the letter.

“She would always be close to me, she would always be somebody I appreciated,” he said, according to Today.com. “When someone says, will you write a letter to someone who you know is having trouble … I did.”

Costner said he did not know whether Houston had ever read his letters.

Houston was found dead Feb. 11 in her Beverly Hilton Hotel bathroom.

A coroner’s report said she died of an accidental drowning partially to blame on heart disease, cocaine and metabolites, NBC Los Angeles reported.

Costner spoke at the Houston’s funeral and remembered her as “the biggest pop star in the world” but said she “didn’t think she was good enough.”

“Whitney, if you could hear me now, I would tell you, you weren’t just good enough, you were great,” he said at her funeral.
