Kristen Stewart the Fairest of Them All for “Snow White and the Huntsman”

"The Brothers GrimmSnow White" lost some ground in the battle for box office late Friday when "Snow White and the Huntsman" cast its lead.

Kristen Stewart will star in "Snow White and the Huntsman," reported Deadline, confirming rumors they'd heard in January.

Stewart joins Charlize Theron as The Evil Queen, and Viggo Mortenson as The Huntsman who refuses the honor the queen's orders to kill Snow and instead goes on the run with her.

Meanwhile, Julia Roberts still awaits cast mates for "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," from director Tarsem Singh and producer Brett Ratner, which promises to be "a new, edgy and modernized spin on the original classic fairy tale."

"This is not your grandfather's Snow White," Ratner told Deadline in June 2010. "Melisa (Wallack, the film's screenwriter) went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney's film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we're going to do."

"Brothers Grimm" still has the advantage of coming out June 29, 2012, nearly six months before "Huntsman" on Dec. 21, 2012.

We're still holding out hope for "Snow and the Seven," a version of the fairy written by Pulitzer-prize winner Michael Chabon, set in British Colonial China in which the seven are Shaolin monks.
