Man Charged With Making Bomb Threat to Avoid Court Date

Authorities say a Florida man called in a bomb threat to a courthouse in order to avoid a court date.

A criminal complaint shows that 37-year-old Oran Orval Dawsey was charged Monday with making threats to destroy a building using an explosive device. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said in a news release that the Moore Justice Center in Brevard County received a telephone threat the morning of Sept. 22. Investigators later determined that Dawsey missed a court appearance that day for a criminal case that could have led to possible prison time. Authorities say Dawsey was arrested Oct. 1 and admitted that he called in the bomb threat to get his court date postponed.

Jail records didn't list an attorney.
