Man Crushed to Death in Elevator Accident: NYPD

The accident occurred at a building in Washington Heights

A 43-year-old man was crushed to death by a freight elevator Saturday in Manhattan, police said.

The man apparently was loading merchandise into the elevator at about 5:45 p.m. when it started to ascend and pinned him to the ceiling, investigators said.

The accident occurred at the La Reguera Dominicana store on West 182 Street in Washington Heights, police said.

The identity of the man was withheld by police until his family could be notified.
