Martin O'Malley Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

The former Maryland governor also called Donald Trump a "fascist threat to our democracy"

After earning the endorsement of President Obama, presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton also obtained an endorsement from former two-term Maryland governor Martin O’Malley.

Despite running against Clinton in the Democratic primaries, O’Malley supplied his endorsement in a series of tweets on Thursday.

"For the future of the country, I am committing my energies to the election of Secretary Clinton as the next president," O’Malley stated in a tweet.

After commending Bernie Sanders for “waging an exciting campaign focused on important progressive issues about which so many of us care so deeply,” he encouraged unity among the Democratic party.

In a statement, O’Malley said: “We must come together to confront the fascist threat to our democracy presented by Donald Trump.”

O’Malley ended his presidential campaign in February after failing to secure a substantial amount of supporters in the Iowa caucus.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, of Massachusetts, also endorsed Clinton on Thursday. Sanders has not yet thrown his support behind Clinton, but has said he will work to stop Trump from winning the White House.
