Michigan Woman Says She Found Black Widow Spider in Grapes Bought at Walmart

A Walmart spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press that the store’s management went through the produce section after receiving the report and surveyed the grapes and that "everything was fine."

A Detroit woman says she bought a package of grapes at a Walmart Supercenter in Troy, Michigan, to later find out she was bringing home a deadly insect.

As she rinsed the grapes in the sink, a black widow spider crawled out of the bag, she said.

Terrified and shocked, she called 911, and the dispatcher advised her to “just kill it.”

A Walmart spokesperson told the Detroit Free Press that the store’s management went through the produce section after receiving the report and surveyed the grapes and that "everything was fine."

“When it comes to food safety, we take all allegations seriously," the company said in a statement to Detroit TV affiliate WXYZ. "We are working to investigate all aspects of this allegation and taking appropriate measures to fully understand what may have happened. Our stores have procedures in place to help ensure products meet our high expectations for fresh, quality food."

The woman says she did receive a refund from the store, but plans on sticking to apples from now on.
