Oliver Stone “Sure” Mel Gibson Can Salvage Career

Even as the Hollywood establishment runs from former box-office star Mel Gibson, there's at least one big name director who thinks there's hope for his career.

"Projects are developed slowly, and over the course of weeks, months, there will be projects, and I am sure many of them will want to have Mel Gibson in them," said Oliver Stone in an interview with London paper The Sun.

The mastermind behind "Platoon" and "Wall Street" thinks that if the right role comes along, Gibson will still get a casting call.

"Everyone is supposed to have an opinion, but most director's don't work that way," he said.

Gibson is currently fighting for his acting life in the wake of a weeks long scandal which centers around a series of audiotapes released by his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. The recordings capturing the star in a series of profanity-laden rants in which he both berates and threatens Grigorieva with physical harm.

The story may have taken a new turn upon the news that police were investigating Gibson's claims that his ex attempted to extort money from him.
