Pakistan Sanctioned Reporter's Killing: US Official

A top-ranking U.S. official said that Pakistan sanctioned a reporter’s killing. Admiral Mike Mullen told reporters from the Pentagon Press Association that while he didn’t have a “string of evidence” to link Pakistani journalist Syed Saleem Shahzad’s death to the government, he added, “I have not seen anything that would disabuse that report that the government knew about this.” On Friday, Pakistan denounced Mullen’s comments as “extremely irresponsible.” Shahzad had been investigating possible links between Pakistan’s spy agency, ISI, and militant groups. These are the most explicit a senior U.S. official has made about Shazad’s death.
