NBC's New Mid-Season Line-Up Unveiled

Where's "Community"?

It's been a tough fall season for NBC, so change was inevitable. Yesterday, the network pulled the trigger and announced its new line-up to begin January 2012.

The musical drama "Smash," starring Katherine McPhee as a woman vying for the lead role as Marilyn Monroe in a new Broadway show, will slot in behind "The Voice" when it returns on Mondays, taking over the slot that was previously occupied first by "The Playboy Club," and then by "Rock Center with Brian Williams."

Williams' news magazine show will slide over to 9 pm on Wednesdays, following a female-led comedy block of "Whitney" and "Are You There, Chelsea?," based on comedian Chelsea Handler's book, "Are You There, Vodka? It's Me Chelsea."

A serial adaptation of John Grisham's "The Firm" will debut Sunday Jan. 8, before settling into Thursdays at 10 pm. The fate of "Prime Suspect" currently remains unclear.

But the most surprising change has to be the absence of "Community," which has continued to struggle to find an audience, despite rave reviews. But the lack of "Community" is not the end of the line for the kids from Greendale.

"Community" is definitely NOT cancelled, NYT's Bill Carter says, two cubicles over. NBC says it'll be off the air for only a brief time," tweeted Brian Stelter of The New York Times.
