The Lights Are Finally On

Crews fight against the clock to restore power before the midnight deadline

A long 12 days after the October Nor'easter, virtually every Connecticut Light & Power customer had power on Thursday morning.

Just 63 customers were without electricity as of 7 a.m. Thursday, according to the CL&P website, and 432 were without power as of 11:30 a.m.  The utility company said early on Thursday that the remaining outages were customers who recently informed CL&P that they were still without power.

To meet its self-imposed deadline to have every customer restored by midnight on Wednesday, CL&P had to work well into the night in several towns.

CL&P crews worked against the clock on Woodbury Lane in West Hartford to fix an underground transformer that blew during the October snowstorm.

Eighteen residents in Dixie Mastrandrea’s condominium complex were some of the last homeowners to get power after being left in the dark for 12 days.

“We’ve stayed in six different residences since this started and the first time we saw any crews was yesterday,” Mastrandrea said.

In Wethersfield, power came back for residents on Forest Drive over the weekend, but a power surge blew out all of their appliances.

A tree trimming company contracted through CL&P hit a transformer with a branch, causing the power surge on Tuesday.

“We have no stove, no refrigerator; we have no microwave, no dishwasher… I have no furnace, no washer and dryer,” Rebecca Naldi, of Wethersfield, said.

CL&P officials said they were aware of the situation on Forest Road and the company is working with the Naldi family through the claims department.

The Naldi family is now trying to figure out where they will come up the thousands of dollars it will take to replace all of their appliances that were damaged.

A representative from CL&P said they want to remind customers that while the company is working to re-energize customers, if there are any mishaps, call the customer service department and they will be able to process the complaint through the claims department.
