Stella McCartney to Launch Children's Line with Gap

In a summer already filled with collaboration mania (Kate Moss for Topshop, Matthew Williamson for H&M, Miley Cyrus with Max Azria and Walmart, shudder), add a new one to the roster: Gap announced today that designer Stella McCartney will be creating a line of kids' clothing exclusively for the Gap.

The collection, which will be available at select GapKids and babyGap stores throughout the U.S. and abroad (as well as on Gap's website), will also likely bear McCartney's signature trademark of not using any animal products or animal testing in the creation of her collections. The mother of three is apparenly ecstatic about the opportunity, having always wanted to design a collection for children: "I believe that this one off collaboration will be a great way for customers to be able to participate in the Stella McCartney brand."

In summary, big kudos to the Gap for actually making us interested in kids' clothing. It's true, we were momentarily infatuated with Phillip Lim's ridiculously adorable tykes' collection, but then we were blinded by the price tags. After already scoring big with a khaki-themed collaboration with indie stalwarts like Alexander Wang and Vena Cava, the Gap seems to be seriously bringing it, which was sorely needed after last year's overall anxiety about whether or not Gap shoppers would "get" Patrick Robinson's new direction. Well, memo to affordably-priced retailers everywhere: The Gap's back.
