Some communities in Orange County, San Diego and Silicon Valley are expanding water recycling programs — nicknamed "toilet to tap" — as a historic drought forces a once-squeamish public to find new sources, NBC News reported. Several West Coast facilities, like San Jose's Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, process sewage wastewater and purify it into water suitable for industry, agriculture, construction and even drinking. "It's a drought-proof supply, and it's also a local supply," said Colleen Valles, a spokesperson for the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
