Health experts in Washington state have been baffled by a string of severe birth defects, according to NBC News. Several cases of babies born with anencephaly, a condition in which they’re born missing parts of the brain or skull, have been reported in Yakima, Washington. Federal and state officials will not say how many babies have been born with condition. However, they admit they haven't interviewed any of the women in question, or told the mothers there's a potentially widespread problem. State and CDC officials said small clusters of birth defects often turn out to be nothing more than sad coincidence.
