Woman Accuses R. Kelly of ‘Intentionally' Giving Her Sexually Transmitted Disease: Attorney

The complaint also alleges the teen was “being groomed to join Kelly’s sex cult"

A woman has accused R&B singer R. Kelly of knowingly and intentionally infecting her with a sexually transmitted disease while the pair were in a relationship that began last year, according to a criminal complaint.

The complaint, filed with the Dallas Police Department last week, alleges Kelly, whose full name is Robert “R” Kelly, sexually assaulted the woman during their relationship, which lasted roughly 11 months, the woman's attorney said.

The woman, who is not being identified because she is the alleged victim of sexual assault, claims Kelly gave her drugs and alcohol while underage, unlawfully restrained her and sexually assaulted her by intentionally infecting her with an STD without her knowing.

Dallas police confirmed in a statement that a 20-year-old woman to report an incident between her and an adult male that was alleged to have occurred in December 2017.

"The complainant stated she was in a consensual sexual relationship with an adult male who knowingly gave her a sexually transmitted disease (STD) in Dallas," the statement reads. "Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Division are working with the Dallas County District Attorney’s office to review this incident."

Police said the incident was not being investigated as a sexual assault since both parties were consenting adults.

A lawyer for the "I Believe I Can Fly" singer did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the complaint, but a spokesperson told the Washington Post Kelly “categorically denies all claims and allegations” related to the complaint.

According to the attorney, the teen had tested negative for STDs just before she met Kelly in March 2017. It wasn’t until she ended the relationship in February 2018 she discovered she had been infected, attorneys said, noting that the woman said she “did not have any other sexual partners” while she was involved with Kelly.

The complaint also alleges the teen was “being groomed to join Kelly’s sex cult," attorneys said.

“Kelly gradually introduced the cult to our client over the course of their relationship, culminating with an explanation that she would have to sign a contract and offer collateral information about herself and her family for Kelly’s protection,” the woman’s attorney Lee Merritt said in a statement.

Merritt said Monday his office is preparing a federal civil complaint against Kelly to “supplement the criminal complaint.”

Parents and former members of Kelly’s reported “inner circle” have accused the superstar of brainwashing women and keeping them in a “cult” where he controls their every move, according to a BuzzFeed report last July.

A Cook County Sheriff’s police report obtained by NBC Chicago last year states officers performed a well-being check at Kelly’s Chicago music studio at the request of the parents of a Georgia singer, who told authorities their daughter was “being held against her will along with another young lady.” The woman, who authorities said had no visible injuries or markings, told officers she was “fine and did not want to be bothered with her parents because her father was threatening people.”

The accusations prompted a review, but no formal investigation from authorities in Georgia.

“The allegations against Mr. Kelly are false and ill-motived,” a spokesperson for Kelly told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He again denies any and all wrongdoing.”

RCA Records did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment at the time and NBC has not independently verified the allegations made.

In a more recent interview, the parents of the Georgia singer, 22-year-old Jocelyn Savage, said the have since declined to accept money in return for their silence and claimed their daughter was forced to say she was happy and didn’t want to leave Kelly. They have not seen their daughter since December 2016.
