Olympic Viewing Guide – Final Day of Trials

July 2: Swimming: women's 50m free and men's 1,500m finals.

The major U.S. Olympic trials in preparation for the London 2012 Olympic Games conclude today. Live coverage of many events can be found on the NBC Sports Network, and selected videos will appear on NBCOlympics.com. Here's what you should watch Monday, July 2:

The event: Swimming: women's 50m free (final) and men's 1,500m free (final).

When: 8 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. ET, July 2, NBC.

Where: CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb.

One to watch: Like all the swimmers vying for a berth on Team U.S.A., Chad La Tourette, 23, knows a little something about sacrifice.

Tourette (nickname Frenchie) postponed his freshman year at Stanford to compete in the Olympic Trials for the 2008 Beijing Games. He took third in the 1,500m freestyle, barely missing the cut to make the team and journey to China.

Four years later he is the top ranked American at that distance and big favorite to make the team. Tourette, who grew up in Mission Viejo, Calif., is also in his final semester at Stanford as a earth systems major and is currently putting together his application for graduate school and admits he is still undecided as to his swimming career following the summer.

“This year so far has been great both in training and in the classroom,” he told U.S.A. Swimming. “One of my main goals that I set for myself was just to have fun and enjoy the end of the student-athlete experience." Viewing audiences will be cheering him on tonight in the hopes that he can add the word Olympian to that experience.

What happens: The fastest two swimmers in each individual event earn a place on the U.S. Olympic team bound for London.
