Budget Calls for Hikes in Rail, Bus Fare

Train fare will increase 14-15 percent and bus fare goes up 10 percent.

Bus and train fare is slated to go up in Connecticut because of budget cuts, and there will be cuts in service.

Rail fare is slated to increase 14 percent on Shoreline East trains and 15 percent on the Connecticut portion of the New Haven lines.

Fares for Shoreline East range from $2.50 for a one-way ticket in Branford to $8.25 one-way in New London and from $51 to $175 per month.

The plan also includes eliminating all 32 weekend Shore Line East trains, effective November 2011.

Bus fare will go up 10 percent as of Nov. 1 because the state subsidy will be reduced. The plan also includes cutting service by 40 buses abd cutting 50 transit employees.

A 1-day pass for CT Transit buses is $3.25.

Another proposal is to delay Waterbury night bus service.
