Chris Shays to Make Senate Run Official

Shays to announce his senate campaign next week.

Former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays will soon make his U.S. Senate bid official.

Shays posted on his Facebook page that he will formally announce his run at noon on Wednesday at the Old State House in Hartford.
Joe Lieberman currently holds the seat and will not run for re-election.
Shays is expected to face Linda McMahon in the Republican primary.
McMahon spent $50 million in 2010 on her unsuccessful bid for the seat that Chris Dodd previously held.  Richard Blumenthal won the 2010 election.
Shays served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 2008. He represented the 4th district.
Former Vernon Mayor Jason McCoy had filed an exploratory committee but is no longer in the race, the Journal Inquirer reports
"Mayor McCoy did indicate to me that he would no longer be pursing the nomination for the open U.S. Senate seat," Republican State Chairman Jerry Labriola Jr. told the Inquirer.
In December, McCoy received more than $8,000 in overtime pay for working as mayor during major storms, town officials told the Inquirer.
