Shays Disappointed in McCain

Connecticut Republican Congressman expresses concerns

McCain's presidential campaign has lost its way.

That's according to New England's last Republican U.S. House member, U.S. Rep. Chris Shays, of Connecticut.

Shays, co-chairman of the McCain campaign in Connecticut, said McCain's no longer the maverick he once claimed to be.  According to the Yale Daily News, Shays says McCain failed by not living up to his promise to fight a clean campaign.

Shays also told the Yale Daily News that he does not see how McCain can win. He did, however, say that the presidential race has been full of negative ads from both campaigns.

McCain's other Connecticut co-chair is Sen. Joseph Lieberman.  Although Lieberman hasn't publicly commented on McCain's chances, he continues to campaign for him, the Yale paper reports.
