Everyone's Talking About Joe Again

Lieberman's taken a few positions on health care reform

Joe Lieberman might be the most popular guy in Washington, D.C., this week.

On Tuesday morning, they were talking about him on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," and VP Joe Biden said the senator just plain out wrong to oppose a health care compromise in the Senate that would allow Americans as young as 55 to buy into the Medicare program.

Politico reported Monday that the White House is putting pressure on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to strike a deal with Connecticut's Independent senator.  The White House is denying that claim, but Politico's source "reaffirmed" that the White House is trying to get Reid to help the bill pass by Christmas.

All this comes after his appearance on network TV Sunday where he threw into question his support of the health care reform bill in its current condition.

Lieberman is apparently frustrating Democratic leaders because he's opposed to any health care reform bill that includes an expansion of Medicare to those 55 and older.  At least he is now.

Sen. Joe Lieberman's Flashback on Health Care

The Huffington Post reported Monday afternoon that Lieberman's taking a different tact from that he took three months ago when he supported extending Medicare to that age group.  In an interview with the Connecticut Post that has surfaced on YouTube, Lieberman appears to like the notion.

HuffPo also said Rahm Emanuel personally pressed Reid on Lieberman.

Biden told "Morning Joe" that posturing for leverage on major legislation headed toward a vote is not unusual.
