State lawmakers are considering legislation that would allow cities and towns the option to install traffic cameras at busy intersections to record and fine drivers who run red lights.
Members of the General Assembly's Transportation Committee will hear arguments for and against the bill at a public hearing at the Legislative Office Building on Monday morning.
Supporters of the bill supporters say the cameras would increase traffic safety and could change driver behaviors.
Opponents of the bill, however, argue that the cameras lead to more crashes and could violate a person's right to due process.
A similar bill died in committee last year.
Gov. Dannel Malloy has said he supports the idea of red light cameras.
Currently, 24 states and the District of Columbia have red light cameras at busy intersections.
