Romney Wins CT GOP Straw Poll

Newt Gingrich came in second, Ron Paul came in third.

One day before the South Carolina Primary, presidential candidate Mitt Romney finished first in the Connecticut Republican Party Straw Poll.

Romney came in with 29% of the vote.

Voting began on January 5 and finished Friday evening.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich finished a close second at 28%.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul came in at 26%.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum came in fourth with 11%.

"We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive and enthusiastic response to our straw poll," said State Republican Party Chairman Jerry Labriola, Jr. "We are excited to have played a part in this process and are eager to hear the voices of our friends in South Carolina tomorrow."
