Rules of Decorum in Advance of Senate Debate

The Democratic candidates debated Monday and were asked to adhere to rules of decorum.

Democrats vying for a chance to succeed the retiring Sen. Joe Lieberman debated on Monday afternoon and were asked ahead of time to recommit to the rules of decorum after one candidate called one opponent a “whore” and another a “zealot” during a debate last week.

U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy, former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, state Rep. William Tong, Matthew Oakes and Lee Whitnum are scheduled to meet at the University of Connecticut Storrs campus at 1 p.m. Monday.

Whitnum drew criticism for her comments at the NBC Connecticut debate on Thursday night after harshly criticizing Murphy for his support of a pro-Israel lobbying group.

CT1 Media said it had asked all candidates to recommit to the rules of decorum.

On the Republican side, former wrestling executive Linda McMahon and ex-Congressman Chris Shays are seeking the nomination. Hartford lawyer Brian K. Hill, Southbury attorney Kie Westby and Fairfield attorney Peter Lumaj are seeking the GOP nomination.
