Senator Suzio Requests Recount

Republican state Sen. Len Suzio lost the 13th District race to Democrat Dante Bartolomeo by 238 votes and now he is calling for a recall.

Suzio said in a statement that “substantial errors already have been identified and the potential for more errors in the race for Senate District 13 is much higher than normal.”

Suzio was on the ballot as a Republican, Independent and as the We the People Party.  Bartolomeo was on the ballot as a Democrat and the Working Families Party.

“The potential for human error with respect to vote-counting in this contest is far greater than normal because although there were only 2 candidates, those candidates ran on 5 different Party lines. This compounds and complicates the vote compilation process and appears to have contributed to some significant errors,” Suzio wrote in his letter.

Suzio also said there were a “number of significant mistakes” in Cheshire, Meriden and Middletown.

So far, the Secretary of the State has called for one recount because of a 48-vote spread in the 106th General Assembly district in Newtown. Registrars have until Nov. 14 to complete the recount.
