Irish Eyes Could Be Smiling on Edsall: Report

UConn football coach Randy Edsall could meet with Notre Dame’s athletic director Jack Swarback as early as today about their vacant head coach position, the Connecticut Post is reporting

While it is not a surprise that Edsall’s name is popping up for vacant jobs, it is strange that there are few reports saying the same thing.

Cincinnati’s head football coach Brian Kelly has a meeting with the Fighting Irish athletic director in New York today and it is presumed that Edsall will meet there as well. ESPN is reporting that "things are heating up"  regarding Kelly becoming the next Notre Dame coach.

It has been reported that Swarback will also interview Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh sometime soon, but he told ESPN that there is no meeting.

Even though Edsall is not a front-runner for the position, just being asked for an interview is quite a step for the Huskies coach. He has just completed his eleventh season at the helm and has led UConn to bowl games each of the past three years.

Edsall has refused to comment on the subject, ESPN reports, but this is not the first time his name has been rumored for another job. Last season he was on the short list for Syracuse, his alma mater.

UConn’s bowl game is on Jan. 2 against South Carolina. We should know by then how this all shakes out.
