Downunder Doldrums for Blake

James Blake falls to last year's runner-up in straight sets

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the 2008 runner-up, has advanced to the quarterfinals at the Australian Open with a 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (3) win Monday over Fairfield's own James Blake.

Tsonga, who lost to Novak Djokovic in the final last year at Melbourne Park, finished the match with an ace, then danced around Rod Laver Arena to the delight of the crowd.

The 23-year-old Tsonga will play Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals following the Spaniard's upset win over Britain's Andy Murray in five sets earlier Monday.

Blake has failed to get passed the quarterfinals in 28 Grand Slam appearances.
