Bristol Blues to Retire Jim Rice's Number Tonight

Hall of Famer and Red Sox legend Jim Rice is expected in Bristol tonight, when the Bristol Blues retire his number at Muzzy Field

Rice, who was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009, was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1971 and made his debut for the Bristol Red Sox in 1973, earning the Eastern League batting title, according to Bristol Red Sox.com.

Then he went on to play for the Pawtucket Red Sox and then the Boston Red Sox, where he spent his Major League Baseball career. Read more about his career on the Society for American Baseball Research.

The New Britain Herald reports that Rice’s number is only the second number to be retired at Muzzy Field. Babe Ruth’s was the first.

Jim Rice Night begins at 7 p.m.
