Dogs vs. Cats in Queen City

What are you doing Saturday? Watching UConn hoops

Hasheem Thabeet and Jeff Adrien will look to dominate inside as the fifth-place UConn Huskies battle the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday.

The Bearcats come into the game at a respectable 10-5 but are looking to avoid going 0-3 in the Big East.  They face a tall test as 13-1 UConn (2-1 in conference) hopes to feast on the bottom of the league.

Look for 7 foot, 3 inch tall Thabeet to be a huge force inside. The Bearcats don't have a player taller than 6 foot 9 getting significant minutes.

Expect Jeff Adrien to continue his double-double ways. UConn should be able to exploit Cincinnati and get them into foul trouble.

The Bearcats strength is their back court, led by Junior Deonta Vaughn, who is an All-Big-East candidate.  He leads the team in scoring (14.5), assists (4.8), minutes played (34) and steals (1.4). In fact, he is one of only two players averaging double digits. The other is freshman forward Yancy Gates (10.2).

Vaughn is the key to the Bearcats offense, and UConn should be able to neutralize him with a combo of AJ Price, Craig Austrie, and improving freshman guard Kemba Walker.

Expect a close low scoring first half with UConn pulling away in the second half, much like they did against Rutgers.

With games against St. John’s and Seton Hall coming next week, the Huskies will be looking to build a nice little Big East winning streak. So far, coach Jim Calhoun has had his players focused in road and neutral court games, going 7-0. Look for that trend to continue on Saturday.

What better way to spend a snowy afternoon then plopping down in front of the TV (4:30 p.m. on Channel 59) for a little UConn hoops action.

At 7:30 p.m. flip on over to CPTV and watch the UConn women continue their dominating ways against the West Virginia Mountaineers. Nice little double dip for all you hoop-heads!
