Harrington, Rose Top Travelers Leader Board

Afternoon tee times were not kind to most players at the Travelers Championship Thursday.

The wind kicked up as the day went on, making scoring a bit tougher on some of the golfers at The TPC at River Highlands.  But not everyone had problems in the afternoon.

Justin Rose, who had a 12:42 p.m. start time ran a string of five straight birdies on the back nine to finish tied for the lead after day one with a 6-under 64.  "I'm very happy with that round, especially in the afternoon," Rose said.

Vijay Singh also didn't see bothered much by the wind in the afternoon, shooting a 5-under 65 in round one.  But it was some of his shots not affected by the wind that helped him go low Thursday. "The strongest part of my game today was my putting," Singh said.

The threat of severe weather delayed play for 90 minutes Thursday afternoon, but the players were back on the course by 3:30 p.m.

Also on top of the leader board, Irishman Padraig Harrington, who shot a 6-under 64. "The golf course is very good for scoring," Harrington said. "The greens are ideal if you're driving it well, getting it in the fairway you can really attack the pins." Harrington took advantage of an early tee time and was off the course before any of the weather problems developed.

Others had a little tougher time at the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell, including defending champion Kenny Perry. "I just played poorly, physically tired, mentally tired, just didn't have any legs under me the first nine holes," Perry said of his opening round. The 2009 Travelers champ had three birdies and two bogeys on the way to a 1-under 69.

There were some other notable names making their way to the top of the leader board early Thursday, including Corey Pavin, Bubba Watson and Ben Curtis, all who shot a 5-under 65.
