Marcus Fraser of Australia hits his tee shot on the 16th hole during the second round of the golf on Day 7 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Golf Course on August 12, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The third round of the men's golf tournament began Saturday with one less player.

Lin Wen-tang of Taiwan withdrew from the men's competition because of an illness. This did not exactly thwart his chances of getting on the podium Sunday — Lin opened with a pair of 77s and at 12-over 154 was in last place, 22 shots out of the lead.

Rickie Fowler, meanwhile, was trying to get back in the game. He was 3 under through six holes, but still 11 shots out of the lead.

Marcus Fraser of Australia shot a 2-under 69 Friday for the 36-hole lead in the first Olympic golf competition since 1904. He had a one-shot lead over Thomas Pieters of Belgium, a former NCAA champion who closed with three straight birdies.

Swede Henrik Stenson, the British Open champ, is in the mix thanks to the longest put in his career: a 108-footer for par.
