Thibodeau and Williams will work the next three years under coach Mike Krzyzewsk

A person with knowledge of the details says Tom Thibodeau and Monty Williams will join the returning Jim Boeheim as assistant coaches for the U.S. Olympic men's basketball team.

Thibodeau and Williams will work the next three years under coach Mike Krzyzewski. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the hirings were to be announced later Monday.

The Chicago Bulls' Thibodeau and the New Orleans Pelicans' Williams will replace Mike D'Antoni and Nate McMillan. Thibodeau is considered one of the NBA's best defensive coaches.

Boeheim, D'Antoni and McMillan all worked under Krzyzewski since 2005, helping the Americans win two Olympic gold medals. The Syracuse coach is close friends with Krzyzewski and decided to remain for the next cycle, which starts with the 2014 World Cup of Basketball.
