ND Gives UConn Women a Scare

Renee Montgomery scored 20 points as top-ranked Connecticut beat No. 24 Notre Dame 76-66 Sunday to remain the nation's lone undefeated team.

The senior guard dished out eight assists and had five steals in leading the Huskies to their 37th consecutive home win and fifth win over a ranked opponent this season. UConn had beaten the other four by an average of just under 35 points.

Tina Charles added 19 points and eight rebounds and Maya Moore had 18 points for UConn (27-0, 13-0 Big East).

Ashley Barlow led Notre Dame (18-7, 7-6) with 18 points. Lindsay Schrader added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Notre Dame led for much of the first half, and was up 43-41 almost four minutes into the second, the first time the Huskies had trailed after intermission this season.

But a pair of baskets by Moore and pair of 3-pointers by Montgomery started a 22-1 run over the next seven minutes.
