Ollie: “I Want To Be Here for a Long Time”

There has been speculation that the NBA is trying to lure UConn basketball coach Kevin Ollie away from Storrs, but Ollie said he hopes to stay here in Connecticut for a long time.

Ollie was in Hartford on Friday for a news conference about the state hosting the American Athletic Conference men’s basketball championship next year when he was peppered with questions about his future in basketball.

“Like I always say, I am here with UConn right now and trying to work things out with our great university,” he said. “I am UConn made and I want to be here for a long time.”

Ollie, a former UConn player, led the team to a national title this year during his second year as the head basketball coach.

Ollie acknowledged that people have been calling to see if he is interested in other teams.

“That’s just a part of the success you have and the success the university has. Everybody wants to be associated with a winner and he won,” Ollie said.

Ollie said it’s a “great honor” to have options, but he knows where he wants to be and where his heart is.
