Ready to Play UFL Football? Colonials Might Want You

When the Hartford Colonials went to Richmond, Virginia to look for player for the new United Football League team, more than 200 potential players showed up.

“I was impressed by the players that we had here. We had an excellent turnout,” Colonials head coach Chris Palmer said.

The players who went to Petersburg High School for the open tryouts and a chance to play for the team include former University of North Carolina wide receiver Mike Mason and quarterbacks Anthony Morelli, of Penn State, and Cullen Harper, of Clemson.

“I think we will end up offering contracts to six or eight of the athletes here, which in my mind makes the day an overwhelming success,” Palmer said.

On Saturday, the Colonials will return to Connecticut and prospective players will be trying out at Berlin High School and Sage Park.

To test the possibilities, athletes are timed in the 40-yard dash and participate in a series of individual and team drills.
