Red Sox Championship Gear in High Demand

Many Red Sox fans are now scrambling to pick up hard-to-find Red Sox World Series championship gear.

The Sports Authority in West Hartford opened at 7:30 a.m., which was an hour and a half early, to accommodate eager fans who wanted to stock up on championship supplies before going to work.

By mid-day, workers at the store had a tough time keeping merchandise on the racks, but championship hats and T-shirts did stay in stock.

"I've been following them my whole life and it's just a great win, coming down to get some shirts and stuff for the kids and kind of just celebrating," said Cliff Shute, of Bristol, who stopped by the store to stock up.

But many fans struck out on championship gear at other stores.

While Dick's Sporting Goods stores were stocked up early in the day, customers said the supply at the company's Newington location was temporarily gone by mid-day and another shipment was expected soon.

"They said you can get it online but a lot of people want it today.  They don't want to wait, so that's probably what I'm going to have to do, go home and get it online," said Ben Butler, of Moodus.

At Modell's in Newington, there was a line out the door about 20 people long before the store even opened for the day.

Inside, while hats sold out quickly, other championship merchandise, including T-shirts, remained on the shelves and a steady stream of customers stopped by.

"I've been calling around all day and this is the only place that had them, so I came right over the second I called," said Marie Schweitzer of Berlin.

"I went to one other shop and they have them here at Modell's and I found what I was looking for so I'm pretty happy," said Susan Rogers of Newington.

It's a scramble for Red Sox fans to stock up, as the team's newly printed World Series championship gear is clearly in high demand.
