Top-Ranked UConn Crush Tulane, 87-39

Every single Huskies victory this season has been a blowout

Now atop the national rankings as the country's best team, Geno Auriemma's Huskies continued to do what they've done for months: dominate opponents. The latest group of unfortunate souls to cross their path: Tulane, who was on the receiving end of a 87-39 beatdown, on Valentine's Day, no less.

Moriah Jefferson led all scorers with 16 points, and five of her teammates ended the night in double figures: Morgan Tuck (14 points), Kia Nurse (12), Gabby Williams and Breanna Stewart (11) and Saniya Chong (10).

UConn, who led 42-12 at the break, outrebounded Tulane 45-30, shot 49 percent from the floor for the game, and held the Green Wave to 31 percent shooting.

“We’re trying to get to the point where we treat every team the same,” Tuck said, via SNY.com. “Everyone knew we would be ready to go and get  hyped up for the South Carolina game. But we wanted to make sure that we didn’t have a letdown today and we did a pretty good job of that.”

Auriemma added: “I thought we did a lot of good things. There were a couple stretches where our transition stuff was so good and we made some great plays. I think Moriah added to what she did Monday night. Everybody’s doing what they’re good at. We’re playing well as a team. It starts with our defense as it does all the time. For the most part, we did what we normally do — play good defense, share the ball, and get ready for the next one.”

Next up: Houston comes to the XL Center on Tuesday night.
