Auriemma: Mosqueda-Lewis ‘Making Progress'

First it was an elbow contusion on her right elbow. Then there was another to her left elbow. And finally, in mid-February, mononucleosis sidelined junior Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis for an estimated 3-6 weeks.

She has missed three straight games since the diagnosis -- including Saturday's 92-41 rout of Houston, along with eight games earlier this season after the right elbow injury. But coach Geno Auriemma offered some encouraging news over the weekend.

“She’s making great progress, there were no setbacks, no nothing,” Auriemma said, via SNY.com. “We get back early Wednesday morning so we’ll take a look at her again on Thursday and see where it goes. If she looks good we can start getting her out there and if not we got to wait. But there were no setbacks and all the information I got is really good, more encouraging than discouraging for sure.”

Mosqueda-Lewis didn't make the trip to Texas, which means she'll miss Tuesday's matchup with SMU, too.

The Huskies have two regular-season games remaining after that (at home against Rutgers and at Louisville) before the American Athletic Conference Tournament begins, and after that, the NCAAs.

UConn has shown the ability to win with just six or seven scholarship players, but Auriemma would gladly welcome Mosqueda-Lewis back into the fold as the team prepares for its most important stretch of the season. And now it sounds like that might happen sooner rather than later.
