Connecticut native and ninth-seeded James Blake has cruised into the second round of the Australian Open with a strong performance over Canada's Frank Dancevic.
Blake, who reached the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park last year to match his best effort at a Grand Slam, had more than twice as many winners as unforced errors in the 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 victory Tuesday.
Dancevic played well, breaking Blake's serve three times. But Blake's go-for-broke style was generally on target. He constantly pressured the Canadian and played his best on the important points to become the fourth American man to advance.
