Bragging Rights Up for Grabs

Well, it all comes down to this: Cromwell vs. Hyde III.

Two of the best teams in the CIAC Class S will square off Friday night at H-K High School for the shoreline title. It starts at 7 p.m.

The first two games between these rivals were instant classics.

Cromwell won by 2 at home, 58-56, on a last-second jumper. Hyde returned the favor three weeks later, winning 62-60. The first game was marred by a fight. The second had one of the most hostile crowds you'll see in small school hoops.

What makes this rivalry so good?

The fact that these two teams are huge rivals on the gridiron helps. They have been two of the best hoops teams in the conference the past few years and also have a true dislike of one another.

I've seen both these teams play up close. I'll tell ya, when Cromwell is on its game, I don't think there is a Class S team that can beat them.

What Hyde does so great is force the tempo. They have control of any game because of their toughness and athleticism.

To win, Cromwell must either force Hyde into an up-and-down game or match Hyde's nastiness.  For Hyde to win, play great "D" and hit your free throws.

If you are a fan of high school sports, or if you have a son or daughter who plays, I recommend you go.  This will be one of the most intense, high energy, tough and physical high school games you'll ever see.
