FedExForum to Host AAC Men's Tournament

On Monday, the newly formed American Athletic Conference announced that the women's basketball conference tournament would be held at Mohegan Sun. A day later, FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. was named as the site for the inaugural AAC men's tournament.

Home to the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies, the FedExForum holds 18,400.

"We are very excited to have the first American Athletic Conference championship at FedExForum," Commissioner Mike Aresco said in a statement (via USAToday.com). "We received significant interest from many outstanding venues. FedExForum is an outstanding facility and the Forum, the city of Memphis, the University of Memphis and the local community will combine to create a wonderful inaugural event that our teams, coaches, administrators and fans will embrace and enjoy."

The Big East, which included UConn until recently, had played the conference tournament at Madison Square Garden. Last fall, the conference and the venue agreed to a 10-year deal, although that matters little to the Huskies, who are now part of the 10-team AAC. Other members include: Louisville, Cincinnati, Rutgers, South Florida, Temple, Memphis, Central Florida, Houston and SMU.

The AAC Tournament will run March 12-15.
