Hamilton Looking to Be More Consistent

Freshman Daniel Hamilton has been a bright spot but he also knows he can improve.

Consistency has been a theme through the 2014-15 season for the defending national champs. It looked like they had found a groove earlier this month, after wins over Florida, USF and Cincy, but reality set in following the recent loss to Tulsa.

Freshman Daniel Hamilton has been a bright spot -- including 16 points and 12 boards against Tulsa -- but he also knows he can improve.

"The game is a faster pace," he said Thursday, according to the Hartford Courant. "It's a higher-paced game. So some of the stuff I was doing in high school, I can't do in college. Some of the stuff I could get away with in high school, I can't do in college, so I just have to slow down and just let the game come to me and not rush it. ...

"What I know I can do is get to where I want to on the offensive end," Hamilton continued. "As far as my jump shots, it's just a matter of knocking them down and being efficient. One or two dribble pull-ups, catching and shooting, defending — I know I can do that it's just a matter of letting the game come to me. In high school, I had to make adjustments because it wasn't middle school any more."

Coach Kevin Ollie has talked about his team making adjustments too. Specifically, he mentioned possible changes after the latest loss. On Thursday, those changes started with an intense practice session that senior Ryan Boatright described as "rough," but adding, "it's exactly what we needed."

I knew what was coming, I've been around a long time. It's exactly what we needed. It's up to us to tell him that [the talent] is there, and it's up to him to reach that level that we need to get to."

Boatright continued: "I knew what was coming, I've been around a long time. It's exactly what we needed. It's up to us to tell him that (the talent) is there, and it's up to him to reach that level that we need to get to."
