After three years at UConn, including a Big East Tournament title and national championship this spring, Kemba Walker was drafted last week by the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats.
And while Walker may be gone from Storrs, he won't be soon forgotten. Partly because he was such an integral part of the Huskies' recent success, partly because he was one of the best basketball players in school history, and partly because he was great leader, both on and off the court.
Which explains why he's being honored on July 12 as the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce Role Model of the Year.

"Walker joins the list of other recipients of this award that include: former UConn standouts Tina Charles, Emeka Okafor, Caron Butler and Kevin Ollie; former UConn standout and NBA World Champion Ray Allen; former UConn and WNBA great Rebecca Lobo; former Houston Astro Jeff Bagwell, former Philadelphia Philly Rico Brogna; former NFL players Chris Hetherington and Joe Andruzzi; former MLB player Ricky Bottalico; former LPGA Pro Suzy Whaley; New England Patriots Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli; and Red Sox President and CEO Larry Lucchino."
The breakfast will be held from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m at the the Crowne Plaza Hotel Cromwell. If you want to see Kemba up close and in person in Connecticut one last time, tickets are $19 for Chamber members and $29 for non-members.
We suspect it's only a matter of time before Maya Moore is honored since this is one of the few awards she has yet to win.
